I was visiting family.
The 10-year-old had come out as lesbian and gender-fluid. She (preferred pronoun majority of the time) was staying incredibly informed about the LGBTQ+ movement and issues.
The father said to me: "Have you heard of her new hobby?"
This is a father who deeply loves and supports his daughter. A father that's informed and intelligent.
Perhaps his daughter will change her mind later in life. Perhaps not. That's not what's important or relevant.
What's important and relevant is that this is her reality right now and thus it deserves respect.
The problems of the adult clients I work with started in childhood and most often started at home - schools adding weight.
It started with being dismissed or minimised by the adults in their lives and told to fit in instead of standing out.
Empower children in trusting their truth when it harms no one.
Don't project your own limitations onto any child.
Be a better generation of adults.
Your life, your choice!
