Yesterday I was introduced to a beautiful quote:
"Advice is what we ask for when we already know the answer but wish we didn't." (Erica Jong)
It led to a conversation around whether we seek advice for affirmation in our thoughts and feelings and, indeed, permission to think and feel the way we do.
Another way to look at it is that we seek advice when the answer is too uncomfortable, too unbearable to face, so we try and put the burden of truth onto someone else by asking for advice. It then becomes their job to rip off the comfort blanket we're hiding under and accept what we couldn't on our own.
One might argue, though, that this is still seeking permission to face the truth.
Your life, your choice!“Advice is what we ask for when we already know the answer but wish we didn’t.”
