Causing someone you love pain can feel horrible - but it is entirely human. What's important is the intent. Did you mean to cause pain? Did you go out of your way to cause harm?
I doubt it.
So, the second most important thing is to not run away to avoid further pain inflicted but to say 'hey, I messed up, I'm sorry, but I'm going nowhere and hopefully my love will make it okay again.'
It's easy to walk away but it only makes the pain greater.
It's a far more healing act to stay and make it worthwhile.
