When we boil it down to what really matters, most of us agree it's feeling connected to someone we love, it's having a full belly and a roof over our heads; to go to bed at night and feel safe; to smile and laugh, to enjoy the sun on our faces, to feel tension leave as we enjoy a hot cup of tea. We cherish happy memories, shared with those who matter to us. We value relaxing, slowing down, the days where we were able to simply enjoy life.
And yet... We chase a different kind of happiness. One paved by hustle, over-working, buying stuff we don't need, envying those we don't know, wasting time on news, social media and comparisons. We prioritise activities that makes us look fitter, better, more attractive instead of time with family, friends and loved ones. We then numb our overwhelm with avoidance, like TV or drinking instead of recharging in nature, in good company, with sleep.
We say we want happiness and peace of mind and yet we created and support a society and way of living that give us the opposite.
