How often do we hear about people saying they're 'over-analysing' or that they 'analyse' everything - how often is that person you?
I used to say that I was an over-analyser and that I'd analyse everything to death.
But I came to realise that I wasn't actually analysing anything. At least not in a way that any proper scientist would approve of.
What I was doing was getting stuck in thought loops and figuring out ways to blame myself or make myself responsible for other people's actions.
I've since been observing this in clients for years when they use this terminology.
Are they overthinking things, sure! Are they truly analysing events - seldom, no.
What they're doing is making themselves the central baddie and get stuck in a loop of self-blame and self-bullying.
Next time you find yourself 'over-analysing' are you really looking at things through an analytical lens or are you just making yourself the main character of other people's drama?
