This is not the first and probably won't be the last post about selfishness as it keeps coming up in conversation.
Being selfish isn't inherently a bad thing but we've demonised this word so much.
Going out of your way to hurt others or not caring about the consequences of your actions is selfish and, if you're a kind person, should be seen as bad.
But looking after yourself with kindness and respect is not. This is what fosters self-esteem and confidence and don't we all deserve that? However, to foster self-esteem we have to look out for ourselves and nurture ourselves, like a mother should a child. So, sometimes that means being selfish and saying 'no', setting boundaries, doing things that don't please everyone else, looking after your own needs.
It is selfish but it's also an act of self-love.
Let's not demonise words and make our thinking black and white. Let's not label things either good or bad because it's not very productive.
