The Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) isn't new - at least not to me. Even before the internet and smartphones and global connections, I had a strong sense of FOMO whenever I missed a party or couldn't be two places at once or didn't travel as much as my friends.
But it's certainly not been helped by modern technology and knowing just how many things you can be missing out on every single minute of every single day.
YOLO was another trendsetting word that was a refresher of carpe diem - You Only Live Once, so make the most of it and avoid living with regrets.
I offer a new perspective: YOLO, so stop wasting it on FOMO!
We have this one precious life and you do only live once (even if you believe in reincarnation, you still only live THIS life once), so why waste it on feeling bad? Why waste it on trying to do it all and missing being present for any of it? Why say yes to everything and miss out on the glory of saying no? Why try and kill yourself sooner by taking silly risks with your health to live a 'rock n roll' lifestyle?
You only live once, so enjoy missing out on all the unnecessary noise and clutter of life and lean into what really matters.
Your life, your choice.
